PEACE WALLS PROGRAMME

Dialogue aimed at improving community cohesion and confidence is an integral element of the Peace Walls initiative, as is engagement with those who may not have previously participated in community relations activities.

Nothing in our areas can change without consultation and agreement of local residents, particularly those living in the shadow of interface barriers and fences. To this end, community consultation is a core and essential element of our work.

Providing a core supporting role to the partnership are a number of relevant statutory agencies including the DOJ, Housing Executive, DSD, BRO, BCC, DRD and the PSNI.

Duncairn Interface Sites

Duncairn Community Partnership is core funded by the International Fund for Ireland to facilitate delivery of the Peace Walls Programme (PWP).

The Peace Walls Programme is aimed at developing and delivering a range of confidence and relationship building interventions within and between interface communities to help residents reach a position where they feel it is safe and appropriate to proceed with the removal of Peace Walls in their area.

The Programme, which was developed by the International Fund for Ireland following consultation with all the key stakeholders, is designed to be the first stage in a process leading to the physical removal of barriers.

An accountable reference group consisting of the above organisations working alongside community partners provides opportunities for advice, resources, budgeting and planning to meet any community expectations raised as a result of our consultations and associated work plans.
